Guidance and Discipline

When a child displays unacceptable behaviour, we have a number of steps which we follow.  Staff use a positive approach to guidance and discipline including redirection, anticipation and elimination of potential problems.

If the unacceptable behaviour continues after we follow these steps, we will use “sit and watch”.   This is when the child must “sit and watch” the other children and observe their correct and acceptable behaviour.   After a short time the child is asked to rejoin the group and positive encouragement is offered rather than criticism or comparision.

Our methods of discipline are consistent, they include the use of clear guidlines and limits formulated by the staff and explained to the children.
